Stop Naming Hurontario LRT

About Hurontario LRT

The Hurontario LRT will be a 20-kilometre, 22 stops light rail service connecting people from the Port Credit GO station to the Brampton Gateway Terminal. The Hurontario LRT will connect with the Port Credit and Cooksville GO stations, Mississauga Transitway, MiWay, Brampton Transit and Züm transit lines.

The Hurontario LRT project represents a $1.4 billion investment by the Province of Ontario to expand and improve transit in the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton. It is part of Metrolinx’s award-winning 2008 Regional Transportation Plan for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Learn more

About this consultation

Metrolinx's Design Excellence team recently studied harmonization of regional transit wayfinding which includes station, stop and interchange naming. A set of principles were established for selecting names consistently across the regional transit network, helping to make transit easier to navigate. Our five principles in determining new wayfinding names:

  1. Simple - Simple names are easier to remember
  2. Logical - Logical names provide a mental link when trip planning, they should be relevant to the area they reside
  3. Durable - Names should be relevant as long as the station exists
  4. Self-locating - Names should allow users to mentally locate themselves within the region
  5. Unique - A unique name is one that cannot be confused with any other

For the Hurontario LRT, applying these principles has led us to propose changes to eight stop names. Recognizing the importance of balancing technical requirements with public input, we are seeking your feedback on new names:

  1. Brampton Gateway
  2. 407 & Hurontario
  3. Eglinton & Hurontario
  4.  Mississauga City Centre
  5. Celebration Square
  6. The Exchange
  7. Fairview
  8. Dundas & Hurontario
