The Hurontario LRT line is coming to Mississauga and Brampton. You can expect 18 kilometers of smooth, fast, reliable connections to GO Transit lines at Port Credit and Cooksville; Mississauga Transitway; Brampton Zum at the Brampton Gateway terminal and express and local MiWay and Brampton transit services. The project will double the corridor's capacity to move people, significantly improved transit travel times and serve as a crucial link between many of the region’s existing and planned transit lines.
The LRT will transform Hurontario into a vibrant people-oriented corridor connecting communities and accommodating growth anticipated over the next 30 years and beyond. A reliable and convenient transit system through this corridor will encourage effective, sustainable economic and residential growth.
This exciting new transit route will use light rail vehicles produced by Alstom, the largest LRV supplier in the world and cars will be assembled right here in the Region of Peel. The Alstom Citadis Spirit is electrically powered and produces near-zero emissions. Each unit is equipped with four allocated wheel chair areas, for a total of 15 accessibility spaces in each vehicle. The low floor design ensures accessibility for those with mobility challenges, providing a safer and more enjoyable experience.
The LRVs will operate in a dedicated right-of-way lane unhindered by regular traffic; this means transit riders will get to where they need to be, quicker.
Preparatory works have already started, and major construction will begin next year, with a targeted completion date for fall of 2024.
Infrastructure Ontario projects that over 800 jobs will be created during the peak of construction. The project will also give priority to local vendors for the purchase of products, supplies and services. Upon completion, the Hurontario LRT will employ approximately 300 people including operators and maintenance personnel.

Will parking be reduced at Port Credit GO?
AnonymousAre there any plans to improve the parking situation at Port Credit GO? Will parking be reduced due to construction and after construction?
ANSWER
MetrolinxA small portion of surface parking at Port Credit Go will be converted to the HuLRT station stop. We understand that parking may be even more challenging at this station, but there are other options to get on the GO:
There is also parking available at Clarkson GO. Remember to change the default setting on your PRESTO card if you chose to park at this station.
Signals
AnonymousIs there signal priority planned on Hurontario. There is on Finch but it was a big mistake not to include it on Eglinton.
ANSWER
MetrolinxTransit Signal Priority is part of the Hurontario LRT project. It will be materialized mostly in the form of green light advance (i.e. changing to green earlier) or extensions (extending the green light for the LRV).
Will the bike lanes be safe and physically separated?
AnonymousWill the bike lanes be safe and physically separated from vehicular traffic?

Provision to run 2-car trains?
AnonymousHas the Hurontario LRT infrastructure (stops) been designed to allow for 2-LRV operation in the future, if ridership demands it?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe LRT system is designed for two-way LRV operation. Vehicles will be running both north and south simultaneously. Should ridership demand, provisions have been made to extend platforms to accomodate extended vehicles. In the short term, more trains could be added to the route.
What will the last station in Brampton look like ?
PaulWill The gateway LRT station have easy underground access to the gateway bus terminal?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe Hurontario LRT Brampton Gateway Terminal stop is a terminus, so it likely will look different than other stops, but we will share more information as design progresses. Plans are for customers to exit the light rail train and wait for the signal to cross before walking across the intersection to the sidewalk on either the east or west side of the street. While there was a request for an underground connection from the platform south of Steeles to the Gateway Terminal, this was never part of the Hurontario project scope.
LRT hurontario
brandenIs the train Going presto machine And also black strips or any kind of strips on the floor so we can see where the train doors will be open?
ANSWER
MetrolinxPRESTO machines will be conveniently located on the platforms of all 19 Hurontario LRT stops. As seen in our renderings, yellow tactile surface will be installed at the edge of each platform to meet universal safety standards. With access to 7 doors on each platform, boarding will be relatively simple.
What will the last station in Brampton look like ?
AnonymousWill The gateway LRT station have easy underground Pedestrian access to the gateway bus terminal?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe Hurontario LRT Brampton Gateway Terminal stop will likely be bigger than others, but we will share more information as design progresses. Plans do not include an underground connection from the platform, customers will exit the light rail train and wait for the signal to cross before walking across the intersection to the sidewalk on either the east or west side of the street.
Port Credit Station
JosephWill the Port Credit Station be built in the parking lot of the GO Port Credit Station because that's what it looks like in the photo of the future Port Credit LRT Station?
ANSWER
MetrolinxYes, the Hurontario LRT stop will be built in the east corner of the Port Credit GO parking lot, just south of the tracks. This will be the only below grade stop and feature a plaza centrally located between the station buildings.
How come as no pictures of the LRT gateway terminal
AnonymousHow come there’s no rendering of the gateway LRT station ? And will there be a underground Pedestrian access to the bus terminal there?
ANSWER

Will the LRT Line go Further north into Brampton?
AnonymousHow come there’s no word of the LRT line going into downtown Brampton’ after city Council did a revolt and approved to go further north ?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe City of Brampton will be seeking public interest on a short and long list of options for their Light Rail Transit Extension study along Main Street to extend the Hurontario LRT from Brampton Gateway Terminal to Brampton GO Station. This is an independent project that is not part of the current HuLRT scope.
Well some of the stations have indoor heating for the winter?
AnonymousANSWER
MetrolinxThe Hurontario LRT will feature 18 at grade stops and one station at Port Credit GO. There will be heating within the designated waiting area at Port Credit station. Trains are expected to arrive every 7.5 minutes during peak periods (10-12 minutes off peak), so customers won't have to wait long for the next one.
Will there be a connection between the current 407 GO service?
AnonymousNo stops are planned at the Hurontario and 407 Park n Ride, how would transfer be facilitated?
ANSWER
MetrolinxTransit riders wishing to use the 407 Park and Ride will be able to take local bus service that will connect with the LRT at either Derry Road or Ray Lawson.
Will the LRT be constructed with future 407 Transitway in mind?
AnonymousANSWER
MetrolinxProvisions have been made in the contract language to adapt to changing community needs. This may include an eventual construction of a 407 ETR stop immediately north of Topflight Drive.
Because Square one has a major bus terminal
AnonymousWhy does the square one LT station look so basic, couldn’t it go underground because the area is going to have some heavy commercial and condo development in the future’ because it will be Mississauga‘s Future downtown core .
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe City Centre LRT stop will be at grade on the north side of Rathburn to more easily connect transit riders with the Square One GO Bus terminal and the City Centre transit terminal. This alignment was identified through the Hurontario-Main Street Corridor Master Plan study conducted between 2008 and 2010 by the cities of Mississauga and Brampton, the Plan included extensive studies on future development in each city and the resulting impacts on transportation.
Will there be a local bus service running along the LRT ........
TristenWill there be a local bus service running along the LRT route after completion?
ANSWER
MetrolinxYes, some local bus service will continue on the Hurontario corrdior to provide service between LRT stops. Express service will cease operation.
Advertising on Light Rail Vehicles
AnonymousWill Metrolinx allow companies to advertise their products/services by wrapping the exterior of trains with ads, like is currently done with TTC streetcars, GO Trains, and some local busses?
ANSWER
MetrolinxDecisions on advertising on the LRT, including the potential for vehicle wraps, will be made close to the Hurontario LRT in service date.
Fare integration
AnonymousI have three questions regarding fare integration. Will the Hurontario LRT have fare integration with 1) GO train and bus service, 2) MiWay busses, and 3) Brampton Transit busses?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe details of transfers between transit systems have not yet been determined, but they are expected to be consistent with what is in place now between local transit and express transit in both Mississauga and Brampton.
How much to pay?
TristenYouth(Presto) : Miway $2.35, Brampton Transit $2.55.
Senior(Presto) : Miway $2.1, Brampton Transit $1.6.
Child(Presto) : Miway $1.75, Brampton Transit $2.
Since the LRT runs between Mississauga and Brampton, will the following occur?
1) Fare can be different when the same customer travels between two stops but different directions.
2) Fare is charged by the starting location thus a customer may pay less than others but travel a longer distance.
Ex. A senior using Presto travelling from Brampton to Port Credit pay $0.5 less than a senior using Presto travelling from Cooksville to Port Credit.
Please DO NOT answer "We have not decided yet and we will continue to discuss the issue with the two transit agencies"
If the problem still occur after opening, the entire LRT should be FREE until it is solved.
Answer
MetrolinxUnfortunately we don't have an answer to your question about fares because at this point in the project, those decisions have not yet been made. Your feedback about the existing fare structure is appreciated and we will share with our City partners.
When did this get approved for Main St
AnonymousANSWER
MetrolinxThe City of Brampton is leading a Light Rail Transit Extension study along Main Street to extend the Hurontario LRT from Brampton Gateway Terminal to Brampton GO Station. The extension is not part of the current HuLRT scope and would be an independent project. The study currently includes seeking public interest on a short and long list of options.
... Main St in Brampton?
AnonymousDont remember seeing anything about continuation north past Steeles.
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe current HuLRT scope does not include extending past the Brampton Gateway Terminal, though the City of Brampton is leading an independent study to explore a potential extension, you can learn more about that on the City of Brampton Engineering and Construction page.
Future LRT extension south of Port Credit GO
AnonymousThe City of Mississauga’s Lakeshore Connecting Communities plan calls for the LRT to be extended to the south and west in the future at an unknown date. I know it is currently outside the scope of this project, but has the Port Credit GO LRT stop been designed to allow for the Hurontario LRT to be extended south in the future?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe Port Credit Station design does protect for the possibility of an extension in the future. Stop locations for the current LRT were identified through the Hurontario-Main Street Corridor Master Plan study conducted between 2008 and 2010 by the cities of Mississauga and Brampton. The Plan included extensive studies on future development in each city and the resulting impacts on transportation.
LRT Maximum Speed
AnonymousWhat will the maximum speed that the LRT can operate at be? Will it be the same as the road speed limit?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe Alstom Citadis Spirit can go up to 100 kph, however; the LRV will operate at the posted speed limit along Hurontario Street.
Bridge between Cooksville GO and LRT stop
AnonymousThe original plan had a pedestrian bridge connecting the Cooksville GO station and the LRT stop so pedestrians didn’t have to cross Hurontario. Has a provision been made so the bridge can be constructed at a later date, since it isn’t part of the project anymore?
Answer
MetrolinxThe pedestrian bridge at the Cooksville stop may be considered in the future, as part of planning for transit oriented communities. In the meantime, transit riders will be able to cross at the pedestrian crosswalk and use either the newly opened John Street extension, or the pedestrian walkway on the north side of the rail bridge.
Dogs on the LRT?
AnonymousWill dogs be allowed to ride with their owners on the LRT?
ANSWER
MetrolinxYes! Dogs will be allowed on the light rail train, you will find a number of them hidden in our renderings.
Number of trains
AnonymousHow many LRV trains have been ordered for this project? Will more be added in the future?
ANSWER
MetrolinxMetrolinx has ordered 28 vehicles from Alstom to run on the Hurontario line. There is always an option to add more vehicles when ridership increases significantly.
Number of Traffic Lights
TristenHow many traffic lights are there along the LRT route? (Please give an exact number)
How many of them give priorities to LRT vehicles? (and how many of them do not)
Will Metrolinx tests (physically) if the vehicles can never stop at a red light during the test trails?
Will the LRT have higher speed limit than other traffic next to them? If not, what are the reason behind it?
If people see a LRT passing their cars at a higher speed, it will encourage them to use the service.
Oppositely, if the LRT never pass other cars, it will never encourage them to use the service.
Answer
MetrolinxTransit Signal Priority will be provided along the corridor and existing signalized intersections will remain. Signal priority will take the form of green light advance (i.e. changing to green earlier) or extensions (extending the green light for the LRV), when required.
The LRV will follow the road posted speed at all times, including peak times when road traffic would often travel below the speed limit.
Transfer to GO
TristenWill a real-time GO departure time be displayed inside the LRT vehicles just before Cooksville and Port Credit?
Answer
MetrolinxNo, internal screens on the LRV will not display GO train or bus departure times. Up to date departure information will be available using TripLinx or the Google Map mobile device app.
Time
TristenHow do Metrolinx guarantees people travelling from Robert Speck to Eglinton will save time using the LRT via City Centre instead of the 103 service(not turning into square one) currently available?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe Hurontario LRT operates in its own dedicated lane undisrupted by vehicular traffic, allowing it to move much faster along the corridor.
The LRT stops for Robert Speck and Eglinton are very close together, however; the LRT will turn off Hurontario to connect with Square One, the City Centre transit terminal and GO Bus terminal. As local bus service will still be in operation, transit riders will want to make an informed decision on what form of transit will best suit their need.
Accessibility
TristenAre all platforms close enough (< 1cm) to the LRT vehicles and have exact height as the LRT vehicles such that a ramp is not needed for boarding?
Valuable time is wasted on TTC streetcars equipped with a ramp!
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe Alstom Citadis Spirit features low floor boarding that is level with the platform, ensuring that each car is fully accessible with designated wheelchair space.
Waterproof
TristenWill there be a structure (higher than 40cm) separating the LRT and the road so that rain water can not be splashed to customers waiting on the platforms when a heavy truck passes by?
Answer
MetrolinxLRT stops are primarily located in the centre of Hurontario Street, separated from the road by tracks. This distance will protect customers against splashes from the roadway.
Renderings of new QEW underpass?
AnonymousCould you please provide renderings of the design of the QEW underpass, of both LRT and traffic lanes? More details about this part of the project would be appreciated.
ANSWER
MetrolinxThank you, we have noted your request. We aim to add more renderings in the future once we are further along in the design process.
Safety
TristenWill all pedestrian traffic light connected to the LRT platform turn green immediately when there is an emergency like a fire on the platform?
Since some platforms are build in the middle of the road, it will be a disaster if people need to evacuate in running traffic.
Answer
MetrolinxThe at grade platforms were designed with two egress points, with points of refuge considered for each. Port Credit, the only station stop, is designed with tunnel ventilation system to exhaust smoke and has a proper exit capacity.
Specific safety response procedures, like if the pedestrian lights will change to green in case of emergency, will be further developed as the teams work to identify all hazards and provide suitable mitigation measures.
Safety
TristenIs there a ramp onboard the LRT vehicle so that people in wheelchairs can evacuate safety in the middle of the road in case of emergency?
Answer
MetrolinxWhile the Alstom LRV is a low floor vehicle designed for accessibility and level boarding at platforms, there are some specific safety response procedures to be further developed. Thank you for your question, it will be shared with the Project team responsible for these procedures.
Brampton Gateway Terminal
SeanI was hoping to see details about the Brampton Gateway Terminal. Originally, the stop was going to be on the north side of Steeles, with crosswalk connections to the Brampton Transit buses. Then it moved to the south side of Steeles with a proposed underground connection with elevators and an escalator.
Now that a new Brampton Council is committed to a northerly extension along the original Main Street route, will the platform be on the north side of Steeles again?
Answer
MetrolinxIn 2015, Brampton City Council decided that the Hurontario LRT would not extend past Hurontario, south of Steels Avenue. Our current design terminates south of Steels Avenue at Brampton Gateway Terminal at the request of City of Brampton staff in 2018. This is a popular question and as you will see in earlier responses, the City of Brampton is currently leading a study to extend the Hurontario LRT from Brampton Gateway Terminal to Brampton GO Station. The extension is not part of the current HuLRT project scope.
While there was a request for an underground connection from the platform south of Steeles to the Gateway Terminal, this was never included as part of the Hurontario scope.
First LRV
AnonymousWhen is the first light rail vehicle (LRV) going to be delivered for the project?
Answer
MetrolinxNo dates for delivery have been pinpointed.
Mississauga City Centre loop
AnonymousHas the Hurontario LRT been designed to allow for the Mississauga City Centre loop, which was cut from the project, to be constructed at a later date if funding becomes available?
ANSWER
MetrolinxProvisions have been made in the contract language to adapt to changing community needs. This may include an eventual completion of the loop.
Dundas BRT transfer
AnonymousWhat considerations have been taken to allow for easy transfers between the Hurontario LRT and the future Dundas BRT in the future?
ANSWER
MetrolinxThe Hurontario LRT will stop on the south side of the Dundas intersection, walking distance from the proposed east-west BRT stops identified by the Dundas Connects Study (2018). The City of Mississauga, in partnership with Metrolinx, is currently initiating Environmental Assessment and Preliminary Design work for the Dundas BRT. The study will incorporate the latest LRT designs (which will include wayfinding) to confirm the final intersection layout and proposed BRT stops and interface requirements.
When will the current traffic light will be remove?
JohnAs the median removals why don’t they do it at the intersection at the same time?
Answer
MetrolinxTraffic signals can only be removed once a temporary configuration has been put in place, so you will see this happening in a phased approach along the corridor throughout 2020 and 2021. The complete removal of the median will follow the sequence of the traffic signal switchover activity.
Lower Speed, Longer Time
TristenDo Metrolinx have any intention to increase the speed limit of the LRT?
If not, what are the reasons behind it? Please answer why it is not suitable to run at 65km/h, 70km/h, 75km/h, 80km/h or more on a dedicated track where the LRV is the only thing running on it.
Note: having an intersection with regular traffic is not a suitable reason.
Also, why don't Metrolinx buy a cheaper LRV with a maximum of speed of 70km/h instead of 100km/h if it is only allowed to run at 60km/h at max?
Answer
MetrolinxIn LRT systems, speed is determined by spacing between station stops and traffic signal phasing with passenger comfort considered. The Hurontario LRT will run above ground on semi-exclusive guideway with some interaction with regular traffic. Speeds will be confirmed and refined during the design optimization process.
Alstom is the largest supplier of light rail vehicles in service in the world. The Hurontario LRT will serve Mississauga and Brampton residents for many years to come, it is important in every aspect of this project to plan not only for today, but also into the future. For more information about these vehicles: http://www.metrolinx.com/en/projectsandprograms/lrv/lrv.aspx
Stopping at stations
TristenHow will the LRT operate?
a) Stopping at every station even no one is going to get on or off.
b) Stopping at a station when someone is on the platform or someone requests a stop. Not Stopping at a station when nobody is on the platform and nobody request a stop.
c) Include option (b) but also stop at a station right in front of a RED traffic light when nobody is on the platform and nobody request a stop.
Note: Stopping at a station means open the doors at least once within a station.
Answer
MetrolinxDoors will open based on passenger requests at most of the stops along the alignment. The LRV will automatically open doors at its terminal stops, Port Credit, Brampton Gateway Terminal and City Centre.
Maintenance
TristenWill Hurontario LRT ever need a DAYTIME(any time between 05:30 to 25:00 in any day of the week) maintenance like the Ottawa LRT.
They both use the Alstom Citadis Spirit and about the same distance.
If yes, what can Metrolinx do better now in quality control?
Answer
MetrolinxA maintenance plan for the Hurontario LRT will be defined at a later date, but the expectation is that most maintenance will occur outside of operating hours. We are working with Alstom to ensure that lessons learned from their experiences all over the world are applied to the Hurontario LRT.
Project Design
DanielThis is a great project but the design is very "no frills", with minimal landscaping, typical streetscapes, and typical stations. The City Centre station doesn't look nice and the landscaping is mostly bare concrete. The streets are not great either, with typical lights, concrete sidewalks (without stone pavers), and the bike lanes aren't even raised. Could Metrolinx please improve the project's design? You're already spending billions, so please make it look pretty!
Answer
MetrolinxThank you for your input, your feedback has been noted. We would like to note that we will be installing raised and separated bike lanes on both sides of the street from Steeles Avenue to the Queensway. South of the Queensway to the Port Credit GO, bicycles and pedestrians will share a multi-use trail along the east side of Hurontario.
How many doors?
TristenANSWER
Metrolinx
Jun 17, 2020 - 08:55
PRESTO machines will be conveniently located on the platforms of all 19 Hurontario LRT stops. As seen in our renderings, yellow tactile surface will be installed at the edge of each platform to meet universal safety standards. With access to """"4 doors"""" on each platform, boarding will be relatively simple.
Should there be 7 doors on each side of the vehicles, that is what I saw in the rendering?
Answer
MetrolinxYou are absolutely right, 7 doors on each platform. We've updated the answer above. Thank you.
No Left Turn
TristenMay I have a list of road where car drivers are not allowed to turn left/go straight after the LRT is finished?
It will be great if roads with no right turn are also provided.
Answer
MetrolinxWith a segregated centre-running LRT, traffic will only be permitted to cross the tracks at select locations, typically major streets with signalized intersections. At minor side streets, traffic will not be permitted to cross the tracks, either turning left or going straight through.
To maintain access to all locations, U-turns will be permitted at some locations. For most of the Hurontario LRT corridor two traffic lanes will be converted to LRT lanes north of the QEW. South of the QEW, the roadway will be widened to maintain today’s capacity.
We will share more information as design progresses. If you have questions about a specific intersection, feel free to email us at [email protected]
where Lrt will run. in the centre or sides
PAWANAnswer
MetrolinxThe Hurontario LRT stops are located in the centre lanes along the alignment, with the exception of the City Centre Stop that will be on the north side of Rathburn. Port Credit is a station stop under Port Credit GO.
HuLRT MSF open house
chrisjamesdrewThere was a very successful doors open event for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT MSF. I took pictures here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/77ytMXqvBtYtSJr1A
I realize the HuLRT MSF is several years away from opening, but when it does can there be a doors open event at it?
Answer
MetrolinxWe are glad to hear you had such a positive experience at the Eglinton Crosstown Open Doors Event. We are hopeful to hold a similar event for the HuLRT once the OMSF is ready!
Choice of payment location
Nick MoreauIn one of the other answers, you note that payment is on the platform. Why was that location chosen, per YRT Viva, as opposed to at all doors, like TTC streetcars?
Answer
MetrolinxUnlike buses or streetcars, the LRT will serve a certain number of predefined stops along Hurontario St. PRESTO machines will be on the platform so they can be easily accessed by passengers prior to boarding the vehicle.
Loop at Square One
AnonymousWill the loop at Square One be bi-directional or single direction?
Answer
MetrolinxIn March 2019, changes were made to the scope of the Hurontario LRT project which included the removal of the Mississauga city centre loop. The Hurontario LRT will continue to connect with the City Centre GO Bus and MiWay bus terminals on Rathburn.
Any Further Plans After Hurontario LRT (More LRT/Subways)?
AnonymousI know you get a lot of people opening disagreeing this project, but vast majority of Sauga/Brampton residents are supportive of this project (silent majority). I'm wondering if there will be any plans to improve transportation in Peel after Hurontario LRT. Would there be a LRT for East/West (such as to Pearson) or subway extension from Kipling TTC to Square One/Sherway Gardens? To maximize the LRT ridership, it's important that we build more lines to extend our network (such as connecting go stations).
Answer
MetrolinxThank you for your comment and your question. The answer is yes, Metrolinx will continue working to add more transit infrastructure and more services for Peel Region. You can find a list of exciting projects and future plans for Peel here: http://www.metrolinx.com/en/greaterregion/regions/peel.aspx. and more information about the planned Eglinton Crosstown West Extension here: http://www.metrolinx.com/en/greaterregion/projects/eglinton-crosstown-west.aspx.
Speed of LRT Vehicles
AnonymousI know you said that the travel time is still being determined, but we want to learn about the approximate speed of these vehicles. It would not make much sense if the LRT (like TTC streetcars) are slower than the buses. I also understand that LRT is not separate from traffic so you'd still have to stop for red lights and traffice. Can you explain why LRT would be better than express buses (other than being able to include more people in one ride). We know that Eglinton Crosstown, Calgary Green line, and Edmonton all have dedicated underground sections which by-pass the traffic at the most congested downtown. How do you know that our Hurontario LRT, being all surface-level, can be faster than regular buses?
Answer
MetrolinxLight rail vehicles will operate in a segregated guideway, separated from traffic, with Transit Signal Priority through signalized intersections. These features will ensure reliable and consistent service to passengers, especially during peak periods. During a regular rush hour today Hurontario Street can get very congested, with approximately 40-50 buses occupying the curb lane and making regular stops. Express bus service will be discontinued once the LRT is operational, freeing up lanes for vehicular traffic. Less frequent local bus service will continue.
Any plans for Construction Cams?
AnonymousDo you have any plans to install construction cams for a birds' eye view of progress?
Answer
MetrolinxYes, we are excited to see Hurontario Street transform over the next four years! We are capturing drone footage once a month for a birds eye view of the construction progress.
Is a transfer necessary at Square One?
AnonymousWhen riding complete LRT route, will it be necessary to transfer to another train at Square One / City Centre, or will the same train run the entire route length?
Answer
MetrolinxNo, passengers will not need to transfer trains to continue the length of the corridor from Brampton Gateway Terminal to Port Credit Station.
What will happen with the trees?
AnonymousThere are dozens and probably hundreds of trees along Hurontario, especially from the QEW to Port Credit. These are beautiful, mature trees. Will they be destroyed? is there a plan to relocate some of them? This will change the landscape and not for the better.
Answer
MetrolinxWe know that the trees are very important to the community and we will work closely with both the City of Mississauga and the CIty of Brampton to help identify planting and compensation requirements for tree removal on both city and private property. An arborist is being engaged to ensure proper arboriculture techniques are employed prior to and during construction activities, and to confirm the preservation or removal requirements for trees located on private property. The project contractor is required to adhere to the City’s tree removal bylaws and policies.
Not enough room in Mineola
AnonymousHurontario is narrow in the Mineola area; not wide enough for 4 lanes and the LRT. What are the plans to widen it? Are you removing sidewalks? which means, taking land from private properties.
Answer
MetrolinxHurontario Street will be widened between Inglewood Street and the QEW in Mississauga to accomodate the LRT and a multi-use trail that will extend from the QEW to Port Credit Go, on the east side of the street. Overwhelmingly, the properties required for the Hurontario LRT are only slivers of land along the corridor. Where possible, the properties are being acquired through amicable willing buyer-willing seller negotiations.
Constructions below GO
TristenWill Go train be affected(delay, cancellation, or shutdown) during the constructions of the LRT?
Answer
MetrolinxWe do not anticipate any major impact to GO service as a result of Hurontario LRT work. As construction progresses, we'll continue to regularly update the community and interested GO customers through our social channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) and our newsletter. Please sign up here to receive regular updates!
Hurontario LRT and Dundas BRT
AnonymousWill the future Dundas Brt connect with the Hurontario LRT? When will work start for future Dundas Brt
Answer
MetrolinxThe Hurontario LRT will stop on the south side of the Dundas intersection, walking distance from the proposed east-west BRT stops identified by the Dundas Connects Study (2018). The next phase of the Project includes a Transit Project Assessment (TPAP), more information is available on DundasConnects.ca.
Service timings
AnonymousWill the Hurontario LRT run 24 hours a day like local miway routes 2 N/S and 17 N/S?
Answer
MetrolinxHours of operation will be defined as the project progresses, we look forward to sharing as we get closer to initiating service.
Dundas BRT
AnonymousHi,will the Dundas Brt just run from Toronto to Mississauga?Or is it being considered from Toronto to Burlington because there is a lot of confusion surrounding where it’s going to run from and where it ends at.
Answer
MetrolinxThe Metrolinx Dundas Street Rapid Transit project envisions higher order rapid transit from Kipling station in Toronto along a 37 km stretch of Dundas Street to Hwy. 407 in Burlington. Metrolinx staff continue to work collaboratively with municipal and regional partners on developing the detailed planning, design, engineering workplan.
The City of Mississauga completed the Dundas Connects Master Plan (2018) to support rapid transit priority for MiWay bus services that operate along Dundas Street both within Mississauga and to Kipling Station in the City of Toronto. You can find more information about next steps on that plan at DundasConnects.ca.
will visual pollution get worse?
Anonymouswill the wires of the lrt increase visual pollution and if the answer is yes, why didn't the city spend more on the lrt to have it without wires?
Answer
MetrolinxThe LRT system will be constructed following design excellence principles that look to integrate the system with the surrounding environment and minimize visual impact.
Bridge Removal
AnonymousHi there,
Can we expect road closures on Hurontario Street for LRT construction for bridge removals and replaced with new and wider ones on the Major Highways 403,401 and 407.Since this happened on the Finch West LRT on Highway 400.
Answer
MetrolinxThere may be a need for short term lane closures on the 407 ETR structure, as it will need reconstruction to accomodate the LRT. The 401 bridge considered space for the LRT when it was reconstructed recently and on the 403, we will use an LRT-only bridge that will bypass the highway itself. Any lane closures for rehabilitation on the existing 403 bridge will be further defined and shared as design progresses.
Will there be real time scheduling built in?
AnonymousAre there scheduling operation hours showing real time transit times showing the ETA of the next LRV at each stop?
Answer
MetrolinxYes! The digital displays on the platform will update in real time to show customers when the next LRT will be arriving.
why this LRT is South North?
NazI personally feel that east west LRT could more beneficial to connect to Islington or Kiping as the stations are already ready and buses are running from those stations from Winston Churchill to Skymark lead to TTC subway.
North south is already too many Mississauga buses and one Brampton zoom bus is running in every 10 minutes then who needs the south north LRT do not understand. Any one could explain to me please.
Answer
MetrolinxThis alignment was identified through the Hurontario-Main Street Corridor Master Plan study conducted between 2008 and 2010 by the cities of Mississauga and Brampton; the plan included extensive studies on future development in each city and the resulting impacts on transportation.
The Hurontario LRT will be a vital connection between existing east/west transit including Port Credit GO, Cooksville GO, the Mississauga Transitway, the Square One GO bus and City Center Transit terminals as well as future proposed BRT lines on Dundas Street in Mississauga and the 407 transitway.
Some local bus service will continue on the Hurontario corridor to provide service between LRT stops, the Express service will cease operation.
Brampton Gateway Terminal - Transfers between LRT and bus
SeanThank you for responding to my previous question. I have a follow up, though, about the pedestrian experience at Steeles and Hurontario. The Gateway Terminal was designed with the LRT in mind, and it would have had two crosswalk connections between trains and buses (on the north side, across from Food Basics, and at Steeles Avenue). It would have minimized the amount of road lane crossed, making it safer and easier to transfer.
With the LRT terminus on the south side, this will require anyone transferring to Brampton Transit or going to Shoppers World to cross Hurontario and Steeles Avenue. This will be much more dangerous as pedestrians will have to cross 8 or 9 lanes of traffic, and wait for multiple traffic light cycles.
Will there be any improvements to accommodate the thousands of passengers forced to transfer here daily?
Answer
MetrolinxThank you for your questions, Sean. As noted above any extension beyond the terminus south of Steeles is not within the current project scope. The safety of our customers and the community is central to all of our project plans, your feedback is appreciated. Plans are for customers to exit the light rail train and wait for the signal to cross before walking across the intersection to the sidewalk on either the east or west side of the street.
The City of Brampton has recently launched an online engagement opportunity for a planned LRT extension study, you can find more information on how to participate here: www.BramptonLRT.com.
How much noise and traffic disruption will there be, and when?
AnonymousAnswer
MetrolinxResidents can expect some traffic delays along Hurontario Street while we work to build this important project.
We have already started removing medians to turn that surface into roadway. This will ensure traffic can keep moving during construction of the new transit line. Crews have also been on site doing noise and vibration testing. The data collected will help identify the impact of construction on the community, and what mitigation measures will need to be adapted.

Lakeshore east - west corridor
Deb GossThe east-west Lakeshorw will become an increasingly busy artery, particularly with new development projects & 60,000 new residents along the corridor. How will the LRT integrate with public transit along the Lakeshore corridor, connecting Lakeview with downtown?Mississauga?
Answer
MetrolinxThanks for the question, Deb. The Hurontario LRT’s terminus stop is at the Port Credit GO station. The station design protects for a possible future south extension that would connect with Lakeshore Road.
The City of Mississauga has endorsed a vision for transit and corridor improvements for Lakeshore Road. You can learn more about that here: Lakeshore Connecting Communities Transportation Master Plan.
