Crossing 400 @ Finch
AnonymousWill the LRT go under the 400 or above the 400?
Answer
MetrolinxThe LRT will be at grade and at the middle of Finch Avenue West crossing under the Highway 400.
Portal entry
AnonymousJust yesterday I believe a car entered the tunnel on the eglinton lrt, is there going to be any signage, flashing lights or barricade(like the one on the queens quay streetcar)?
Answer
MetrolinxProper signage will be designed and installed near the portal areas (entrances to/from the tunnel) to clearly delineate the light rail transit Right-Of-Way (ROW) from Finch Avenue West ROW and mitigate those potential risks.
Will there be sections of track with grass?
AnonymousAnswer
MetrolinxNo. There won't be any sections of grass along the tracks.
steel beams inserted into the ground.
AnonymousAt the intersection of York gate and finch, what is the job of the many steel beams inserted into the ground?
Answer
MetrolinxThe beams or OCS (Overhead Catenary System) poles in the Yorkgate and Finch Area will provide power to the light rail trains through overhead wires.
Left Turn Signals
AnonymousWill all intersections on Finch currently equipped with regular traffic lights be replaced with fully protected left turn signals?
Answer
MetrolinxNew traffic signals are being installed to replace existing signals and accommodate the light rail transit (LRT), vehicles and pedestrian crossings. For vehicles turning left from Finch Avenue to cross streets, all signalized intersections will have left turn lanes with protected movements. A left turn will only be allowed with a green arrow. This is a safety measure with LRT running in the median (LRT will proceed with compatible through traffic on the green light).
Will there be barriers along the guidway?
AnonymousWill there be barriers along the LRV guidway to prevent people from going on the tracks? Barriers were installed on Eglinton but they look a bit messy so hopefully if there are some on Finch they will look nicer.
When will testing start?
AnonymousIs there a rough estimate as to when testing will start on the burn in track along Finch?
Answer
MetrolinxWe are targeting to start running the first LRV on the burn in track along Finch sometime in winter 2022.
However, this timeline may change. Please consider signing up for our newsletter and follow social media channels @FinchWestLRT for updates.
Meetings
AnonymousWhy do you take so long to host a meeting?!
Answer
MetrolinxOur community engagement team is virtually available to meet and discuss project updates or concerns. Please give us a call at 416-202-6500 or email us at [email protected].
Finch and Westmore Highway 27 Portal
AnonymousHow will the train be able to make a 90 degree turn to the south underground as those Bombardier now Aliston Flexity trains can't make tight turns like that
Answer
MetrolinxThe turning radius at Finch and Hwy27 is 30 metres, it is above the minimum turning radius of 28 metres specified by the Alstom Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs). The LRV speed is automatically limited to below 15 KM/H within the tight turning.
Multi Use Path
AnonymousWill the multi use path be underground under the 400?
Answer
MetrolinxMulti-use path will be crossing under East/South ramp and under the Highway 400.
yorkgate and finch.
Anonymousat yorkgate and finch where the lrt will come onto the main line, is the road going to be resurfaced to the same level as the lrt tracks? because I passed by there alot and there seem way higher compared to finch
Answer
MetrolinxThe road elevation will be adjusted to the same level as the tracks. This work is anticipated to be completed by spring 2022.
Guideway from Weston to Islington
AnonymousWhen will the guideway/tracks be layed from islington to weston?
Answer
MetrolinxThe guideway work between Islington Avenue and Weston Road is expected to take place between 2022 and 2023
Will property prices go up by 80% or 150% due to LRT
AnonymousAnswer
MetrolinxWe cannot predict what property values will be upon completion of the project.
Humber College Stop
AnonymousWhen the LRT Terminates at Humber College BLVD & Highway 27 will there be a direct pathway into Humber College North Campus or will students need to walk outside from Humber to reach the station?
Answer
MetrolinxThe LRT will operate in the middle of the road on Finch. It will descend below grade after turning south from Finch Avenue on to Highway 27, runs on the west side of Hwy 27 away from traffic and enter Humber College Station below grade. A covered walkway will run from the plaza of the southern entrance building towards the College and terminate at Arboretum Blvd. directly opposite the existing bus terminal. The covered walkway is a 3 metres wide and approximately 190 metres long.
WIll the section between Hwy 27 and Humber be covered?
AnonymousWill the trench be covered over, or remain open?

I really, really hate the alignment you chose for this LRT line.
AnonymousIt's clear that you & your CEO do not understand you're more problems than benefits on Finch Av.
- The alignment you chose make this LRT looks like the Harbourfront Streetcar
-It's clear that you're not providing Uptown Toronto fast transit like the Eglinton Crosstown
So to conclude, this is the worst transit project you've build for Toronto.
Answer
MetrolinxChoosing the proper alignment and right transit mode requires significant studies. The Finch West Light Rail Transit Project (like other transit projects such as Eglinton Crosstown) has gone through similar studies. The outcome of these studies prove that the current alignment and selected transit mode are the best fit for the FWLRT Project.
Potential noise pollution
AnonymousThe rail runs closely along the residential dwellings, will anything be done to lower the noise from the running LTR .
Answer
MetrolinxThere are noise and vibration mitigation measures in the FWLRT such as, continuous welded rail (CWR), elastomer material as fastening system for rail, filler blocks around the rail, rail lubricators, resilient mats for three levels of noise and vibration in different locations.
