March Break plan: Take GO from Niagara to Toronto

Direct train from Niagara to Toronto part of a stress free & affordable trip for March Break.

Mar 11, 2024

March Break is here.

But do you know what you are doing with your kids yet? A fun affordable trip to Toronto checks a lot of boxes.

The driving, the traffic, and trying to find parking in the big city. A lot less appealing.

Many folks in the Toronto-area hop on GO Transit for a convenient and stress-free trip to the Niagara region, so why not do the same, only in reverse.

If you live in Niagara-region, the Hamilton area or Burlington for example, you can jump on a Lakeshore West GO Train and easily head into Toronto for action packed day trip or weekend away.

Whether it’s for a concert, a game, shopping or a trip to the museum, the GO Train has you covered, with three daily trips from Niagara to Toronto, seven days a week

If it’s an evening event, like SIX: The Musical or a Raptors game, you can jump on the 1:09 p.m. trip from Niagara GO (with a couple stops along the way) and comfortably roll into Union Station with plenty of time to see a few sights and still grab dinner before heading to your event.

Or, if you’re an early bird, why not grab the 6:30 a.m. trip and give yourself the whole day to explore the city?

You can grab a hop-on hop-off bus tour or a take a walking tour of Toronto’s historic Distillery District. And your PRESTO Card is the ticket to discounts on these activities and more.

That little card not only saves you money on your trips but can also save up to 20 per cent on things like the upcoming Toronto Comicon, Canadian Pet Expo, or National Home Show. Your PRESTO card will also help have more fun, for less money, when you visit the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), the CN Tower, and Hockey Hall of Fame.

Plus, if you are feeling a bit peckish when you’re at Union Station, your card also unlocks discounts at several of the food providers in the new Foodie Aisle.

You can find all the discounts your PRESTO card provides by clicking here.

Kids 12 and under are free on GO

And did we mention that kids 12 and under ride for free on GO Transit? And for the adults in the group, you can transfer from GO to TTC  for free thanks to Ontario’s One Fare Program.

The recently launched program means transit riders only pay once when traveling between TTC and GO Transit, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, MiWay and York Region Transit.

Simply tap with a PRESTO card, credit or debit, or PRESTO in Google Wallet and Ontario’s One Fare Program savings will automatically be applied.

Does the GO Train run to Niagara?

Remember, there are three trains departing Niagara Falls GO heading to Toronto's Union Station every day of the week.

And there are three Niagara-bound GO Train trips leaving each day from Union Station — with stops at various Lakeshore West stations along the way.

And all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride.

Head to the GO Transit website to check train trip times and plan your trip. And keep in mind there are also GO Bus trips available to get you back home if you are looking for more return options.

Always be careful on platforms and keep yourself, bags, and loose clothing well behind the yellow line.

And remember in the event of an emergency, the Transit Safety team is available 24 hours a day at 1-877-297-0642 or via text by sending “HELP” to 77777.
