Virtual Open House: Central West Fairbank – Eglinton

Metrolinx and Crosslinx open houses are an opportunity to get project updates, to learn more about a specific topic of interest to you, and to ask general questions.

As we have shifted to virtual open houses, you can find below a project update presentation deck and video of this Autumn’s Central West Fairbank – Eglinton open house.

You can also download the presentation PDF below.

Note: We will work to ensure questions are answered within 3-5 business days.

Buildings at 1578, 1580, 1582, 1584 Eglinton Avenue West were demolished to accommodate construction of Oakwood Station. These were two and three storey buildings with retail on the bottom, and likely residential above. The retail included electronics, clothing, and grocery.

Only sites that were required for LRT construction were demolished.

What is the virtual open house simply a few minutes of a YouTube video?
I did not receive a promised email to connect to the “event.”

Each Virtual Open House (VOH) consists of a project update presentation deck and video, in addition to a question submission section. A PDF of the presentation can also be downloaded (located to the right of video, on desktop).

The VOH page went live at 6:30 PM October 14 and, after some testing, the emails were sent out later than planned (at 7 PM). The issue resulting in this delay has been resolved going forward.

Hello I did not get an email of the virtual open house. Unless the virtual open house is just a video?

Hi Gian,

While the page did go live at 6:30 PM as scheduled, the emails were sent out later than planned (at 7 PM). The issue resulting in this delay has been resolved, and future Virtual Open House (VOH) emails will be sent out right at 6:30 going forward.

The scheduled completion for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT is 2022.

When is it likely that the street will be back to normal?

Construction at each station will wrap up at different times. For example, by the end of 2020, three stations – Mount Dennis, Keelesdale and Science Centre – will be largely complete. Many other station areas will start to look complete in 2021, as finishing works and road restoration are underway. The line will be complete and open in full in 2022.

Of the 50 km of track needed for this project, currently 69% of track has been installed. See slide 12 in the presentation for a visual representation of this work.

The virtual house was only a 5 minute plus You Tube video? I expected better.

How frequently will trains run? Will they be one, two or three cars long? What are the planned hours of operation?

Hi Kevin,

The frequency of service will depend on the demand, headway (i.e. time between vehicles) is designed to accommodate as frequent as 2 minutes in the underground portion and 3 minutes for the at-grade portion. During normal service hours, trains will be no more than 10 minutes apart. The LRT will operate at the same general hours as the TTC subways.

When the project starts revenue service, it will operate two-vehicle trains. All stations, stops and platforms are designed for the ultimate configuration of three-vehicle trains. Check out the presentation deck for more vehicle and service information.

Excluding Eglinton I want to ask if al underground stations would be completed by next year?

The surface portion of the Crosstown is expected to be complete by the end of this year.

I disagree with Phil Verster's comments and we should be considering opening portions of the line earlier if they are ready. Riders looking to transfer off of Eglinton will be able to connect at Mount Dennis, Eglinton West (Cedarvale) and Kennedy. It's unfortunate that Yonge won't be ready, but why should the rest of a massive city have to suffer?

Metrolinx is focused on ensuring delivery of a transit system that is complete, fully tested and ready to provide high quality, safe and reliable service to customers. Any suggestion that the line could be considered ready to open without the ability for passengers to get on or off at the flagship station at Yonge and Eglinton, where tens of thousands of passengers will transfer on a daily basis between the Eglinton Crosstown and the TTC Line 1 Subway, is not in line with the obligations our constructor, Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS), took on when it signed the contract. Metrolinx will continue to keep the public informed on CTS’s progress and what the projected completion date will be.
