Explanation of proposed change:
Islington is an existing TTC subway station on the Bloor-Danforth Line. In order to avoid confusion with the TTC's Islington Station, Thistletown has been suggested as a possible new name. As Thistletown is the name of the adjacent neighbourhood, the name Thistletown is both unique and logical.

Whoever might be making this recommendation may not be aware that there is a future Stop, specified in PSOS, proposed exactly between Kipling and Islington that is named “Thistletown” to serve future development in that area. Should Islington be named Thistletown now, it may present confusion to customers eventually if/when that future Stop is built.
I vote against the change
Represents local neighbourhood and informs transit riders of their location once exiting the FWLRT station.
I lived at Finch/Islington for years and never knew it was called Thistletown.
I don’t know where thistle town is
I believe either Finchdale, or Rowntree Mills would be a better choice. I lived in the area for 40 years, and when I think of Thistletown I think of the community north and south of Albion, east of Islington. Also, Rowntree Mills Park is close by, as well as the Finchdale plaza (which would be my second choice).
Isn't Thistletown south of Finch?
Synonymous with name of area
Islington & Finch is a better name for the area as there is another potential station to be named Thistletown.
Humber River would be a better name but I guess it would be confusing given the terminus at Humber College
Know it love it went to a dance there once
Lovely.
This name represents the adjacent neighbourhood and therefore it is appropriate. "Humber Summit" may be an even better name as it references the river that flow underneath this station, and it is more likely that people from Humber Summit will use the line rather than Thistletown (as one would have to backtrack a bit to get to/from Thistletown to/from most destinations).
I agree that the station name should not be "Islington"to avoid confusion, but it is strongly suggested that the station be subtitled "Islington Avenue" much like the stations on Line 1 under University Avenue (e.g. St. Patrick is subtitled "Dundas Street").
Good nod to local history. "Humber Summit" would also work as an alternative
There is a history to the name "Thistletown". It is appropriate.
This isn't Thistletown. I suggest Islington Park, Finch-Islington Park, or Humber River.
'Thistletown' is okay. However, naming this stop 'Rowntree Mills' after the nearby park or 'Humber Summit' after the river and nearby neighbourhood is better.
This is a great self-locating name that identifies with the neighbourhood.
Stop trying to rename stations/stops so that the names are longer and more convoluted simply so that they're unique across the system. It's the Finch West LRT. Clearly the stop is on.. Finch.
More than anything, Thistletown is confusing. Presumably, the logical model for using the Finch West LRT is:
a) Determining where you need to get off
b) Matching the station name to that point
The name of the street bisecting the line is clear and easy to match - in fact, if you need to get off at Islington and the station/stop is named.. Islington, there's no further matching required. Names for neighbourhoods, especially ones that are not in general use mean that it'll take more effort, albeit marginally so, to determine the point at which you need to get off the vehicle.
Yes, the downside to the name not being unique is that you need the context of 'Finch', but especially considering the fact that Finch is ~12km away from Bloor - towards the northern boundary of the city vs towards the lake - that should be of negligible consequence. Somehow society at large manages despite the fact that street names are often times repeated across the city.
Call it humber summit because thats what everyone knows this place as
This proposed station name creates confusion as no one in this city knows where exactly "Thistletown" is in this city as an intersection. There is no need to name a station after a "neighborhood" as commuter like myself want to be able to identify where exactly we are commuting to. The name Thistletown creates more confusion compared to any station with the name starting with "Islington".
Because folks not from the neighbourhood wouldn't know it by that name ... I'd go with Islington North, or Finch at Islington. We could just as easily name it Bob for as much as Thistletown means to people who don't live here.
Duplicate names are A-OK.
This is the Finch line, at Islington Ave.
Obviously distinct from the Bloor line at Islington Ave.
Not a bad name choice for this stop on the FWLRT Finch West LRT.
Have known the area as both, so it jives well with my inner youngling I guess, lol! Strange though, my father didn't know the area as such, so haha!! And yes it once was called this, as well as Jamestown and maybe Cabbagetown ring any bells?! I say go for it, its a cool name if nothin' else.
How about thistle town/islington
Thistletown is far from the Islington subway and would cause confusion. If you could find something closer to Islington this would be better.
Causes confusion to neighbouring Kipling (Mount Olive station, proposed) .... Here is a better idea... Why not use
1. St. Roch
2. Beaumonde Heights
That name isn't fair to the residents of Humber Summit (who quite frankly have an even stake at what the stop should be named after).
Great recognition of the historical community that stretched along Albion Road east and west of Islington while much of the rest of the surrounding area was still rural.
I love that the people that actually live their can walk with pride. I dislike when people who never lived here tell us how to name our own neighbourhood. This name suit us perfectly and if you really want to do one better. Naming this location after the park Rowntree Mills Park. I remember many summer having BBQ in this park and other people should learn Toronto is beautiful and has many great parks to visit.
Thistletown is an ideal name for this station, but isn't Thistletown associated with Islington & Albion and not Islington & Finch? I feel like something like Humber Summit or Humbermede would make better sense, but since those names would just make passengers confuse this station with Humber College station, I can see why Thistletown is the next logical name for this station.
I like it but it can be confusing with the 118 Thistle Down bus route
Recognized the historical context of Old Thistletown in this area
I always feel the transit stop names should be self explanatery or TTC drivers will have lots of clarification to do on and above their ssfe drivimg job like commuters asking him "Is this my stop? Or did I offshoot that road? So as a thump rule let the prominent road be spelled in the stop names. This case ISLINGTON TOWN may avoid duplication.
Hard to understand what street it would be
No. Thistledown is well south of Finch.
Love this name...a breath of fresh air for the Thistletown Community....GO FOR IT!!!!!
I've been living near this area almost my entire life. I never considered this area "Thistletown." Why not just "Islington-Finch or Finch-Islington?" Perhaps "Rowntree" or "Islington North."
I think we should call the stop FINCHDALE as it is close to Finchdale Plaza
Thistletown is a good name for this LRT station. Other than preventing potential confusion and/or duplication with the existing Islington Subway Station, Thistletown is short, concise, and practical to identify the station location and area. Similar to Emery Village, the use of this name can help the area become another unique focal point or hub along the Finch West LRT line.
Should be Humber summit
Humber Summit more appropriate
Thistletown is at Albion Rd., Humber Summit is the area they goes to Steele’s so I think It should be named HUMBER SUMMIT.
Finch and Islington is no where near Thistletown. If it takes a significant amount of time to get there on foot, then the name shouldn’t be changed.

Humber summit is a more appropriate name since it is at the intersection of the Humber River.
