Eglinton Crosstown West Extension LIVE - May 27, 2022 Questionnaire

Please review the presentation document prior to answering the questions below. Once you have submitted your response, you will be prompted to return to the event page. Submissions for this questionnaire will close on May 27, 2022.

The following points reflect the principles we have used to design the stations and the way they integrate with station neighbours and users.

  • Create safe & efficient passenger connections to the stations: Prioritize efficiency and safety in getting cyclists, bus users and pedestrians to the stations.
  • Improve passenger experience: Apply a user-centred design vision for the whole line including providing natural light, intuitive wayfinding and stations that are accessible and safe for all transit users, regardless of ability.
  • Create inviting outdoor public space: Consider scale and materials that are informed by the community and plantings to help blend into the existing environment.
  • Integrate into the local context: Implement station design solutions that respond to local and future conditions around the station.

Creating safe & efficient passenger connections to the stations

One of our ECWE Station Design principles is:
Create safe & efficient passenger connections to the stations - Prioritize efficiency and safety in getting cyclists, bus users and pedestrians to the stations.

To meet this principle we have included:

  • Curb cuts to improve pedestrian safety
  • Bus stops close to entrance and bus laybys where possible to shorten connection time
  • Bike racks to promote cyclist access to transit
  • Emergency Exit building to provides quick exit should it be required
Are there any other features that could be considered to create safe & efficient passenger connections to the stations?

Improving the passenger experience

One of our ECWE Station Design principles is:
Improve passenger experience - Apply a user-centred design vision for the whole line including providing natural light, intuitive wayfinding and stations that are accessible and safe for all transit users, regardless of ability.

To meet this principle we have included:

  • Accessibility features including escalators and elevators
  • Unique station platform characteristics (e.g. colour) to provide visual cues for each station
  • Skylights to help with natural wayfinding
Are there any other features that could be considered to improve passenger experience?

Creating inviting outdoor public space

One of our ECWE Station Design principles is:
Create inviting outdoor public space -  Consider scale and materials that are informed by the community and plantings to help blend into the existing environment.

To meet this principle we have included:

  • Skylights for natural light and wayfinding
  • Public plaza space with seating and shade trees to enhance use
  • Planting of trees along the boulevard to separate the station from Eglinton
  • Sections of green roofs on the building to promote sustainability
Are there any other features that could be considered to create inviting outdoor public spaces?

Integrating into the local context

One of our ECWE Station Design principles is:
Integrate into the local context - Implement station design solutions that respond to local and future conditions around the station.

To meet this principle we have included:

  • Maintain the existing number of lanes
  • Minimizing the footprint
  • Protecting heritage buildings
  • Work with existing terrain
Are there any other features that could be considered to integrate into the local context?
